IDs add age for alcohol

Back in August, one of the most popular fake ID sites among teenagers, ID Chief, was shut down. The China-based website was making somewhere in the range of 20 to 40 million dollars a year, according WUSA9.com.

Piedmont graduate said he used the site after an older friend telling him that it worked great.

“The only thing that I was a little sketched out about was the fact that I had to put my social security number into the site,” the graduate said. “For all I know, someone in China is now sharing my fake identity with me.”

The graduate said the ease with which a teenager can acquire a fake is, “almost laughable.”

“Last week another graduate literally tweeted, ‘Yo if you want a fake ID hmu [hit me up],’”the graduate said.

PHS student 1 said he got his fake because he hated dealing with other people and trying to get alcohol from others stressed him out.

“With a fake, you can do everything on your own schedule and you do not have to wait for someone else to be able to do a run and you also know exactly how much your paying,” PHS student 1 said.

He said that also when he gets to college, he would need it if he ever wanted to go out with older friends to bars and clubs.

“Having a fake opens up a lot more opportunities and instead of not knowing when your going to get alcohol, having to save it, and stock up, you just know you can get it whenever,” PHS student 1 said.

He thinks it is pretty common in Piedmont because of the drinking culture and also because friends tend to get a pack with a bunch of people in a group so it is cheaper.

PHS student 2 said getting alcohol without a fake is still fairly easy, but having one just makes everything much more convenient.

“It is nice to be able to buy your own alcohol any time you want,” PHS student 2 said. “You do not have to wait for an older student to be go on a run.”

PHS student 1 said the first time he used his fake he was so nervous.

“Slowly, you start to believe that you actually are over 21,” PHS student 1 said. “Everything is basically legal for you so you forgot that in same cases, you are not even 18 yet.”

PHS student 1 said fakes weren’t used for much else besides buying alcohol.

“Some people use them to buy cigarettes, lighters, and swishers if they are not 18, but it is not like anyone would try to use them to vote or anything,” PHS student 1 said.

PHS student 1 said almost no teenagers go to bars and clubs since it is more of a risk because bouncers easily recognize fakes.

“Fake IDs are a very useful investment,” PHS student 2 said.

PHS student 1 said that fakes are not a necessity, but agrees that it’s useful.

“If you think about it, the risk is not worth the reward,” PHS student 1 said. “You are risking having a court date just to get drunk at a party.”

PHS student 2 said having a fake is also a huge money suck, just having the ability to buy alcohol whenever he wants too and having it be so believable.

“It is honestly more about how old you look than how good your fake is,” PHS student 2 said. “A lot of people just do not care, I have seen some pretty terrible fakes that people use all the time.”
