Acting’s ‘Leading Ladies’ a knee slapper

As “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye suddenly starts playing, junior Grant Gadbois makes a dramatic entrance at the top of the stairs and begins seducing senior Dan Meade. To make matters more hilarious, Gadbois is dressed entirely as a woman.

The PHS acting class put on their first performance of the play “Leading Ladies” Thursday March 14 at 7:30 featuring leads Gabdois and junior Connor Christiansen. Their final production is on Sunday, March 17 and features seniors Billy Ireland and William Meredith in the lead roles.

“Everyone should see both casts because they’re actually entirely different,” junior Talia Purnell said. “People interpret the characters differently and each cast is funny in a different way, people come up with new ideas and they improve.”

Purnell played Audrey in Thursday’s production. The two lead characters, Leo and Jack, are struggling British Shakespearian actors who read in the paper that millionaire old lady Florence Snider is looking for her lost nieces. He hatches a plan to get his hands on the inheritance money after deathly ill Florence Snider passes away. All the two guys have to do is impersonate the sisters and collect their inheritance. Unfortunately, Florence will not die and the two men are stuck as women. The plot takes another twist as Leo and Jack fall in love with two different women. Hilarity ensues. With ridiculous costumes, colorful characters, and great actors, “Leading Ladies” will make you wish your life was this crazy.

“I thought the entire cast was hilarious but the best part was definitely the guys dressed up in drag,” senior Amber Ellis said. “

Purnell said Thursday is the most fun show to put on because it’s the first one and everyone is anxious, but also excited so there is a lot of energy.

“There’s so much adrenaline on stage it’s nuts,” Purnell said.
