Get a room: Why PDA should be private displays of affection

photo-2I’m walking to class, minding my own business, I walk towards my locker, and BAM, a couple is making out right next to my locker. It’s warm, the weather is nice, spring is in the air, and apparently so is love.

I have been appalled lately as I have seen more and more public displays of affection, or PDA, around campus. Couples from freshmen to seniors are getting more touchy-feely everyday. I can’t go a day without walking through the school, and seeing a couple either making out in the hall ways or placing hands on each others derrières.

I understand, young love is a strong force, but is it really necessary for you to constantly be touching your significant other. Save that for your own private time together; when I am at school I do not want to see people’s foreplay. School is for learning. School is not a time for canoodling, it is a time for us to learn, and in this sort of environment I don’t want to focus on a couple slyly putting their hands on each other’s thighs. To be honest, that is just gross. Do you really have such raging hormones that you have to constantly touch each other even IN class?

Do everyone else a favIMG_5345or and limit your PDA, it’s uncomfortable for everyone. It’s great that a couple is happy and comfortable enough to show affection to each other, but you don’t need to prove to everyone that they are close enough by kissing in public. It’s fine if people want to hold hands, and hug, maybe in some cases a small peck on the lips, but when it comes to making out and touching each other in ways that they most certainly would not do in front of their family or boss, you know that there is a problem.

People need to learn in high school that excessive PDA is not appropriate in public, I am sure these same couples feel the same disgust I do when I have to walk down the street or through the halls and see people sucking each others faces. Yes, couples want to show their love for each other. And that’s great that they are happy together, it’s really great for them. But I have a problem with couples thinking that they should tell and show everyone how cute their significant other is.

Honestly, I hate to be harsh, but no one cares. Literally no one cares if you are in a relationship, so keep the touching to an absolute minimum I think the golden rule for PDA should be, “Don’t do anything that you wouldn’t want your Grandparents to see.”
