Seniors stoked for summer trips across the globe

As the school year comes to a close, seniors are departing and saying their final farewells to high school, but some students want to make their last summers before college memorable.

Seniors Mark Bublitz and Justin Roach have decided to travel to Florence, Italy from June 29 to July 27. There, they will learn Italian and become immersed in the culture, Bublitz said.

“We have a four hour class every day then we are free to do what we want the rest of the day, such as cook our own food  and find our own entertainment, ” Bublitz said.

Bublitz said they made their decision based on the price, the apartment,  the city, and  the program. He also said that this was a new way they could take advantage of their independence.

“We wanted to find a reasonable place to stay, a reasonable immersion program and to see if me and Mark’s summer schedule would allow for the trip,” Roach said.

They are going to Italy by themselves and feel that this is an exciting trip that doubles as a reward for their high school careers, Roach said.

“It will be good just to go abroad, but even better because we’ll be able to do it with a certain amount of independence,” Bublitz said.

They both expressed interest in Italy and learning the Italian language, so they decided to act on that, Roach said.

“After I traveled to Italy two years ago, I really wanted to go back and learn Italian,” Roach said.

Senior Billy Ireland will embark on this trip with fellow seniors William Meredith, Jack Moe, Zach Michel, Neil Tipton and maybe Mark Bublitz from June 19 to June 30

“We are going to spend a bulk of the trip in Vancouver and in British Columbia. We will also spend a couple nights in Oregon and Washington on the way to and from Canada,” Ireland said.

Ireland said that he and his friends have always wanted to do some sort of camping trip and he felt this was a great way to get some quality time with them before they separate paths moving forward.

“We will spend some nights in the wilderness, cowering in fear of the unavoidable bear attacks. Other hikes will be day trips, but we will constantly have to deal with the looming threat of a vicious grizzly bear,” Ireland said.

Senior Zach Michel is excited for this trip but said that he does not really know what to expect from it and that is why it is going to be fun.

“This will be a good, final outing with my friends,” Michel said.
