Students should branch out and enjoy life

With summer soon approaching, and plans beginning to get made, students should plan time to do something they truly enjoy, rather than scheduling things purely based on looking good for college applications. We believe that many people base their summers on bettering themselves for college, but instead should look for something to do for themselves. Do that thing you have always wanted to do. Go to the San Francisco Zoo. Swim at night in a pool of glow sticks. Sit in your pajamas all day and watch a movie marathon. Eat ice cream for breakfast. Go against stereotypes. Make a summer bucket list. Take a risk.

Not only branching out do that “one” thing that you have always wanted to do, it is vital to live the life you want to. If you enjoy painting, paint. If you enjoy writing, write. Fill your summer with what you are passionate about. Strengthen yourself in areas that truly interest you. Work towards achieving your dreams, not just to get that one letter of acceptance from college.

You only get to be a kid once, allow yourself to enjoy the moments that are given to you to the fullest. The term “YOLO” may come to mind, and however cliché it seems, there is truth to it. While we are definitely not advocating anyone to go out and act stupidly, actions taken should reflect on your dreams and your passions.

Make the most of your summer, and make everyday count. Let go of petty annoyances and relax. Of course, everyone should live every day of the year to pursue their passions and dreams, having a break from school gives you an opportunity to start doing what you love to do.
