Senior Voice: Make it memorable

senior voiceSenior year. Our last year.

I’m not sure exactly how we got here so fast. Although cliché, it seems as though only a couple of years ago my weekends consisted of Beach Revue rehearsals, soccer games, biking in Dracaena and the occasional new episode of Lizzie McGuire on Disney channel.

Now, my weekends are plagued by college apps, SAT prep, homework, and if I’m lucky, sleep. My mind once only thinking as far ahead as the next day is now attempting to plan for the rest of my life. Where I want to go to school, live, and what job path to take, are things I think about daily, and all the constant reminders don’t help with the stress. My desk is now storage for stacks upon stacks of college letters and pamphlets I’ve received in the mail. Never in my life have I’ve been so popular. The bright blue and green college board SAT book looks almost highlighted on my bookshelf. Any time I encounter an adult, relative or not, the conversation always has that one dreadful question, “Do you know where you want to go to school?” Although I very much look forward to starting school next fall, right now is the anxious, stressful part of the process. Ask me how excited I am when I’m a second semester senior, with a least one letter of acceptance. Then I will be excited.

For now, we are told, as first semesters seniors we need to focus. Focus on college essays, researching and school work, which is easier said than done. However through all this stress we need to take time just to be with one another. It hasn’t hit quite yet, but these are the last months we will ever all be together as the PHS 2014 class. Forever blue, and forever purple and white.

Wherever we go, we all came from the same place. Let’s make that place, and this year, as special and exciting as possible. Let’s make crazy stories that we will retell for years to come. Let’s make our senior year memorable.
