Student-run musical finalizes cast

“It’s a musical about two people writing a musical about two people who are writing a musical,” Ellis said. “I think that people who like musicals can enjoy it and people that don’t like musicals can enjoy it because of the way it ironically makes fun of musicals.”

Tyler Ellis MusicalThis year senior Tyler Ellis will be directing a musical called “[title of show]”, alongside musical director sophomore Kay Sibal, and assistant director senior Grace Sanford.

Ellis chose to direct the show because of his interest in musical theater, and he believed that “[title of show]” was a good performance for a wide range of people.

“I grew up with Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Annie, and other plays, I loved movie musicals, and in fifth grade, I finally starred as Robin Hood in the play Robin Hood, and I fell in love with theater,” Ellis said.

Ellis chose “[title of show]” because he liked the small cast. Even though it applies to less families, he still encourages everyone to come and see it.

[title of show]’ only stars 4 characters, and only requires a keyboard for the orchestra Daniel Champion, Yael Gordon, Maggie Lucas and I will be starring in the performance.

Because of the small cast, each character  will have more of the spotlight. Champion said he is excited to work with a small cast, but at the same time he is nervous to take a part with such a large role.

Kay Sibal will be manning the keyboard during the performance. It is uncommon for musicals to have only one instrument.

“It makes everything so much simpler,” Sibal said. “There’s a beauty about making music with the focus on only one instrument.”
