The College and Career Center will be holding a financial aid informational meeting on Tuesday Nov. 17 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the student center.

Darryl Williams, the associate director of financial aid at Saint Mary’s College, will explain the variety of financial aid opportunities available and answer questions regarding the application process at the meeting.

The main focus of the meeting is to eliminate any confusion among students, explain the application process and recommend the best execution techniques that Williams is familiar with in his line of work..

Principal Brent Daniels said that he is excited for parents to receive the most updated information possible. money-graphic2 by Oli Bogle

“There may be certain practices that we don’t necessarily discuss,” Daniels said. “If we have someone who is part of the school come and speak, we aren’t really bringing in any new information.”

College and Career Center director and coordinator of the meeting Allison Bly wants to be clear that the meeting is open to everyone.

“Seniors can really benefit from it because they will be applying for financial aid this year, but all grade levels are encouraged to come, so that they know what will be needed of them senior year,” Bly said.

Although there is a common misconception among students that the financial aid process starts senior year, Frances Fee, a private college financial aid advisor, says that parents and students should look to start early — around the end of freshman year or early sophomore year.

“It would be useful to them to find out how the process works and that will allow them to make some planning decisions early on,” she said.
