The gym lights blare, sweat drips from the athletes brow. It is time. Time for the new head men’s varsity basketball coach Mike Hudson to prove he is here to stay and will lead the team to victory.

Hudson said he used to coach at Kennedy High School until he saw the posted position to be the coach at Piedmont. He was shocked at first to see the job posting because of how long the previous coach had been there.

“I left Kennedy looking for a new opportunity, and I am excited for this new position,” Hudson said.

Hudson said this is his eighth year of coaching, and his fifth year of coaching high school basketball.

“Basketball is a game that honors hard work and dedication,” Hudson said.

Hudson said he has high hopes and standards for the team. The team has come up with some collective goals in order to have a successful season.

“We want to put ourselves in a position to go to NCS, and get a league title,” Hudson said
Hudson said he expects good attendance and attitudes from the team at practice, which will lead to great things on the court.

“So far the team has been working hard and as a coach that’s all you can ask for,” Hudson said.

Senior Ben Barrett, a three year varsity basketball athlete, said he has high hopes for the new coach and what he will do for their team.

Barrett said that he is super excited to have a new coach, and he thinks that the coach will rise to the occasion and give the team what it needs to succeed.

“I am anticipating a fun season, one that we will all remember,” Barrett said.
Barrett said that one of the team’s goals is to win league, and hopefully they will achieve this with the new coach.

“I think our team chemistry is going to be a lot better this year,” Barrett said.
Barrett said that the most important thing for the team is to have a cohesive group that can work well together on the court.

First year varsity basketball player, sophmore David Kisieu said he is really excited to have a new coach for his first year on varsity.

“I want to have the team win as many games as possible,” Kisieu said
Kiseu said that he thinks the new coach cares a lot about the team’s success which will hopefully lead to a good season.

Junior Carvel Tefft said that the team will have to be in better shape this year, because of their new fast paced offense.

“We are a lot more disciplined this year. We can’t be late to practice, and have to be accountable,” Tefft said.

Tefft said the team is better defensively this year, which is a difference from last year.
“We’re just going to work hard and continue to build on each player’s skills which will put us in a good position for NCS” Hudson said.
