Former Beach Elementary paraeducator Jacob Stahl has filled the Library Media Tech position.
“Right now I’m just learning how to make the books last as long as they can, check in, materials, and deal with finances and overdue books,” Stahl said.
Stahl said that he had worked at Beach for 15 years, but decided to leave Beach and come to PHS because the new position will grant him more free time.
“This position will allow me more time for doing computer programming stuff that I want to do, [as well as] a bunch of independent study stuff that I’ve been meaning to focus on but haven’t had time for because I have all these other jobs after school as well,” Stahl said.
In his free time, Stahl said that he is working on designing an educational game app.
“I want to develop a math card game that I think would be very useful for the math programs that I work with, something like Solitaire but using more math.” Stahl said. “I’m teaching myself Python.”
Stahl also said that he likes the environment of working in the library.
“A big dream of mine is to at some point be involved in a community center, and [working in the library] is very much like that,” Stahl said.
Stahl said that his new position is very different from his old job.
“I like how calm it is,” Stahl said. “It’s a world of a difference—so much more mellow.”
Stahl said that his new position has been an adjustment, however.
“I’m used to being in my comfort zone,” Stahl said. “I’m not in my comfort zone right now, which I hear is good for you.”
