All right Hello everyone, and thank you to Kylie Hilton for joining me today.
So how do I spell your name and last name? It’s Kylie Helton, Kylie Hilton perfect. And so how long have you been teaching here? PHS this is gonna be my second week. Actually, I had the pleasure of joining a little late. But yeah, it’s been great so far. And how many sections are you teaching? I’m teaching two I have two anatomy classes second and third. Um, how did you how did you come to Piedmont in the first place? How did they find you? How did you come teacher? Yeah, I actually went to Piedmont High school many years ago. I took anatomy here my senior year and absolutely loved it. And so I’m a current master’s student at UC Berkeley. And they had noticed that last year I tutored a bunch of students in the area, and so they thought it would be a good fit, which masters are you doing at UC Berkeley? I’m getting my master’s in public health and my specialty is infectious disease and vaccine ology. So very close to anatomy. How long ago did you graduate from Pima oh, gosh, I graduated in 2018. So it’s going on almost six years now. The school look very different. When I came here. There was no huge building the theater was here. We had science all the way over in the funniest building, so and there were no stairs, fortunately. Do you have any memories about Piedmont that you want to share? Like yeah, I met a bunch of my best friends here and always enjoyed class. I think anatomy was my first experience with dissections and I found out I loved learning about the human body, especially loved AP Bio, and I think that kind of set me on my path to study biology in college.
And of course, I first started joining the track and field team here and that’s something that’s become important to me as well. So part of my Masters is also a spy can be on the track team their stuff, right? Yeah. And then where did you what you do after you graduate from keep in mind, I went straight to college and then went and got my undergraduate degree at Harvard. So I loved it out there. Being back east Jerome tracking I did running is kind of relative because I’m a pole vaulter. So there’s not a whole bunch of running but I did I joined the team there. Fell in love with it had some extra NCAA eligibility when I graduated because of COVID. And so decided to use those last two years out here. What got you to come back here. I had a pretty good scholarship to Berkeley which was great and I wanted to be closer to my family even though my siblings have now gone off to college. My parents still live in Piedmont, so it’s very nice to be much closer to home than I was. So what are you most excited about this year? I was excited. I love working with the students. I think each student has their own reason for taking anatomy. And so I’m looking forward to facilitating that and hoping that each student gets out of anatomy what they hope to are teaching the full year are you here unshare should remain unpublished.
We don’t know right now just a half year because I don’t really have control of my schedule next spring. My classes are kind of set for me as a masters and they travel every other weekend for track. So we’ll see. I would love to say I love teaching so far, but I don’t want to like commit to anything that I can’t possibly consider teaching full time.
I think so. Yeah. I really liked it. I think students at Piedmont are very unique and very kind which is not something you get everywhere. And so I think I’ve had a very unique experience in teaching a very positive one. But yeah, I think I’d consider it for sure Medical School is the goal but that’s a couple of years off or a year or two off. So maybe in my gap year.
