On Sept. 27, the PUSD School Board voted to approve two new classes at PHS, AP Chemistry and AP Physics II. The courses will be offered to students who have completed the first-year chemistry or physics courses (Honors Chemistry/ Physics or Chemistry/ Physics). The vote came after a two week community comment period after PHS science teachers John Savage and Marna Chamberlain presented the proposal to the school board.
The addition of these classes has been a point of interest in the community for many years. PHS principal Sukanya Goswami said. While many students have expressed interest in taking these classes according to a survey sent out by the science department, the district will need to determine exactly how many students will enroll in the classes for the upcoming school year in order to move forward with completing the master schedule, determining the number of sections, and finding a teacher.
