Despite new efforts by school administration to curb vandalism, Piedmont High’s bathrooms have continued to be hit by unknown vandals.
PHS Principal Sukanya Goswami said there have been several major acts of vandalism recently, including a door that was unscrewed and taken partially off of its hinges that needed to be repaired.
While administration has yet to find the exact culprits of the vandalism, Goswami said the new sign-in and sign-out sheets have been helpful.
“Using the [sign-in/sign-out] sheets, we can narrow it down to a group, and we are trying to find out [who it was] exactly,” Goswami said.
Goswami said that she hopes that as time goes on, the sign-in and sign-out sheets will be even more effective.
“It will take some time to get into a culture at this school of [signing in and out] because teachers now have to keep an eye on who is going out, and they are not used to it,” Goswami said. “Hopefully once everyone consistently uses [sign-in/sign-out sheets] I think it will be more effective than what’s happening now. But I’m glad that we are implementing this system.”
Some students are becoming frustrated that the vandalism has continued, despite the efforts to stop it.
“It’s dumb. Why would people vandalize something we have to use?” junior Drake Prata said.
Junior Luisa Cole said that the vandalism is also very inconsiderate of those who will have to clean up the mess.
“It makes janitors’ jobs even harder,” Cole said.
Goswami said that students with any ideas of how to prevent further vandalism should reach out to her.
“We are always open to student ideas,” Goswami said.
