On Dec. 11, 2024 the PUSD School Board reached an agreement with the Peralta Community College District to offer dual enrollment courses at PHS. Counselor Michelle Hoang said Dual Enrollment refers to when high school students take college courses offered at their high school campus that are taught by college professors.
According to the official Peralta College Community district website The Dual Enrollment program is meant to give high school students an opportunity to take college level courses.
Courses that are currently listed as being part of the Dual Enrollment program are Linear Algebra, Calculus III partial Differentiation, Discrete Mathematics, Data Structure and Algorithms, E-commerce/Entrepreneurship.
School Counselor Christopher Hartford said that prior to making any final decisions on what courses will be offered, the administration wants to gauge the interest level from students about the potential courses.
Hoang said Dual Enrollment is commonly confused with but different from Concurrent Enrollment in that Concurrent Enrollment courses are taken off campus in a community college or an online source and are entirely outside of PUSD, whereas dual enrollment courses are taken on campus.
Dual enrollment allows high school students to enroll in college courses that are offered on the PHS campus and receive credit for the work that they do.
According to the Piedmont High School Website concurrent or dual enrollment in upper division courses may receive an extra grade point as approved by the Superintendent’s designee.
