For the first time, PHS underclassmen will have a dance of their own.
On March 22, the ASB class is hosting Spring Fling in the student center, giving freshmen and sophomores a chance to enjoy a night out without upperclassmen. The idea originally came from the sophomores in ASB, who wanted to create an event specifically for underclassmen. David Yoshihara, PHS principal then proposed the idea of a dance, and Colin Amen, the sophomore class president, took the lead in organizing it alongside vice president Charlie Panico.
“We’ve been trying to plan another big event for a while,” said Amen. “We want this to become a new tradition.”
The dance is set to start at 6:30 p.m. and will last for two hours. ASB plans to sell tickets starting next week, though the price is still being finalized. The theme of the event will be tropical. The dance will have a DJ, and ASB is hoping to have food trucks available as well.
“We decided to have the dance in the spring because as underclassmen there’s not a whole lot to look forward to in the spring event-wise,” said Amen.
Unlike homecoming or prom, this dance is meant to be casual. Some students are looking forward to having another dance.
“I am excited because we get a second dance,” said sophomore Dev Nabizadeh. “I’m not really sure what to expect since it’s the first time this dance is happening. But I think it will be fun.”
With ASB hoping to make this an annual event, this year’s dance could be the start of a new tradition for underclassmen to look forward to every year.
