Millennium High School’s 25th anniversary marks a celebration of the school’s history, recognizing a quarter century of academic excellence and impact on the community. The event will take place at the Piedmont Community Hall on April 18 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Students and special guests are set to speak during the program.
“I anticipate that the mayor will be there to do a proclamation in honor of the anniversary, as well as district personnel,” MHS Principal Irma Munoz said.
Senior Axé Johnson said she feels that the celebration is necessary to acknowledge the impact of MHS on the community.
“The school has been in the community serving Piedmont students as well as others from neighbouring communities,” Munoz said
Students have expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming celebration.
“I think we should celebrate the school’s legacy because it has been around for a long time,” freshman Jack Miller said.
Others are looking forward to participating. Johnson said she will appear in a video to promote the event.
“It means a lot to me because it’s the 25th anniversary and I am graduating in 2025,” Johnson said.
Munoz said the evening will include refreshments, as well as speeches from herself, staff members, and notable alumni, sharing their perspectives of MHS. Munoz said she hopes for poems and songs to be recited as well.
“[This celebration is] significant because our school is often overlooked and it’s important for our alumni to be able to celebrate,” Johnson said.
Students have noted substantial changes throughout their time at MHS.
Johnson said that in terms of school spirit, many are not making an effort to get to know Millennium.
Munoz said that although Millennium High is a small school, it is comprehensive.
“We offer all of the programs and classes kids need to graduate and follow their dreams,” Munoz said.
Munoz takes pride in the accomplishments of MHS students.
“A significant number of students have been accepted into four-year universities, and last year we had 100% of our senior class graduate,” Munoz said.
The celebration will conclude with a reception where attendees can exchange important memories and reflect on their time at MHS.
