Millennium High School’s 25th
anniversary marked a celebra-
tion of the school’s history, rec-
ognizing a quarter century of academic
excellence and impact on the communi-
ty. The event took place at the Piedmont
Community Hall on April 18 from 6:00-
7:30 p.m. Students and special guests
spoke during the program.
“I anticipate that the mayor will be there
to do a proclamation in honor of the an-
niversary, as well as district personnel,”
said MHS Principal Irma Munoz.
Senior Axé Johnson said she feels that
the celebration is necessary to acknowl-
edge the impact of MHS on the commu-
nity.
“The school has been in the communi-
ty serving Piedmont students as well as
others from neighboring communities,”
Munoz said
Students expressed their enthusiasm for
the celebration.
“I think we should celebrate the school’s
legacy because it has been around for a
long time,” freshman Jack Miller said.
Others looked forward to participating.
Johnson said she appeared in a video to
promote the event.
“It means a lot to
me because it’s the
25th anniversary
and I am gradu-
ating in 2025,”
Johnson said.
Munoz said the
evening included
refreshments, as
well as speeches
from herself, staff
members, and no-
table alumni, shar-
ing their perspectives of MHS. Munoz
said she hoped for poems and songs to be
recited as well.
“[This celebration is] significant be-
cause our school is often overlooked and
it’s important for our alumni to be able to
celebrate,” Johnson said.
Students have noted substantial changesthroughout their time at MHS.
Johnson said that in terms of school spir-
it, many are not making an effort to get to
know Millennium.
Munoz said that al-
though Millenni-
um High is a small
school, it is compre-
hensive.
“We offer all of the
programs and classes
kids need to gradu-
ate and follow their
dreams,” Munoz
said.
Munoz said she
takes pride in the
accomplishments of
MHS students.
“A significant number of students have
been accepted into four-year universities,
and last year we had 100% of our senior
class graduate,” Munoz said.
The celebration concluded with a recep-
tion where attendees exchanged import-
ant memories and reflected on their time
at MHS.
