Varsity men’s baseball played Mt. Eden on Friday March 5 and won, 2-0.
Senior Matt Horst was pitching and sophomore Graham Low was catching.
In the bottom of the first inning, Senior Cooper Wetherbee got the first hit for the team. Later in the bottom of the first, Senior Brendan O’Connor advanced Wetherbee to second base.After the first inning the score remained 0 to 0.
In the third inning, Horst hit with three balls, two strikes and two outs, and Wetherbee scored.
The score after the third inning was 1-0, with Piedmont in the lead.
Assistant Varsity coach Rob Brethauer said the team played really well, and that was all because of Horst’s pitching.
“Throwing a complete game and getting two hits is very impressive,” said Brethauer about Horst.
In the fifth inning, sophomore Jackson Roberts hit a double. Senior Jack Hamner ran for Roberts and scored a run.
By the top of the sixth inning, the score was 2-0, Piedmont, and remained that way for the rest of the game.
Low said the team got the runs they needed, but could have done better.
“We need to hit the ball better in certain situations,” Low said, “but we still got some bit hits today.”
