On Thursday, Oct 3, math teacher Michael Malione joined the PHS staff as an Integrated Math I (IM I) teacher. Malione, a Piedmont resident, will be filling in the former vacancies in fourth and sixth period.
“I have kids in the district,” Malione said. “When I heard that there was a need for a math teacher, I applied.”
Assistant principal Irma Muñoz said that the hiring process was standard for all teachers entering employment at PHS.
“They apply through our hiring site, and if their credentials are solid, we offer them a position,” she said.
According to an email from principal Adam Littlefield, Malione earned his B.A. in Physics from Harvard University and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering/ Applied Math from Stanford University.
Malione said that he will be here for the remainder of the year.
“I’m hoping to continue teaching in the coming years,” Malione said.
According to the email, the search for a math teacher for first period continues, and they hope to finalize hiring within the next week.
