Nine seniors have achieved National Merit Semifinalist status, putting them one step closer toward winning a National Merit Scholarship.
Seniors Remy Afong, Thomas Horn, Alex Krenitsky, Andrew Moy, Drake Palmer, Jackson Roberts, Sam Thacher, Will Thacher and Eric Zhang are among the 16,000 students now in the running to become Finalists.
Of the approximately 1.4 million entrants, less than one percent of juniors who took the PSAT earned scores qualifying them for Semifinalist standing. The cutoff score for California was 222 out of a possible 240.
From the pool of Semifinalists, approximately 15,000 will advance to Finalist standing by displaying high academic performance determined by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Students will be notified in February if they have been selected.
Between March and mid-June, NMSC selectors will award scholarships to about 7,600 Finalists based on skill, ability and accomplishments.
