The student athlete conferences will cover sportsmanship, a virtue that has not been emphasized since peewee soccer. These meetings will be effective for the beginning of the season, but at the high school level, where competition can become overwhelming, it is easy to get caught up in the game and forget about respecting teammates and opponents.
PHS athletes are respectful and conscientious of opponents, but there is work to be done. We hope these meetings will further solidify the values of sportsmanship and respect within our student-athlete community. It is up to the coaches to set an example that athletes can follow on and off the field, and for parents to display the same level of respect that their sons and daughters are expected to show on the court.
