New attendance policy: School to message parents of student absences

New attendance policy: School to message parents of student absences

IC Attendance GraphicPUSD parents will be alerted via text message, email, cell phone or home phone if their children are absent starting April 9, Assistant Superintendent Randall Booker detailed in a letter to PUSD parents April 8.

In the event of an absence, the parent message will read:

“This is an important message from the Piedmont High School attendance office. Your child was reported absent from their first period teacher today. If you have already called in, or submitted a written excuse for your student’s absence, please disregard this message. If not, please call the attendance line at 594.2663 to excuse the absence. Thank you.”

For high school students, notifications begin at 10:15 am for absences from Blocks I & II, and at 5:00 pm for Blocks III & IV.

The new program uses Infinite Campus Messenger, which already sends home the school newsletter and emergency announcements.

In the letter, Booker said the new message system is part of the “efforts to continuously improve safety procedures and communications between school and home.”
