When the crowd finally settled into their seats to watch “Footloose” the musical, they sat down to a performance that contained 17 songs, about 40 prom dresses, 17 scenes, and over 60 student performers.

Last weekend, 62 students performed in the musical “Footloose” at the Alan Harvey Theater. The performance was directed and choreographed by Amy Moorhead, with the musical and vocal direction by Justin Pyne. The musical ran from Thursday to Sunday and began at 7:30 p.m. each night.IMG_0245

“The choreography included jazz dance, hip hop, country line dancing, and musical theater dance,” Moorhead said. “I also included social dance from the era of the show.”

Inspired by the 1984 film, the musical is set in the 1980s and includes songs such as “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Footloose” and “Almost Paradise.”

“All four audiences were either very close to full houses or over-flowing,” Moorhead said. “We turned away about 100 people on Saturday night.”

“I went because the majority of my friends were in it, but I thought it was very upbeat and fun,” junior Megan Deutsche said, who has been to each musical since she was a freshman.FullSizeRender

“I have seen every musical since I was a freshman, and I love seeing the musicals because I love seeing people do what they love,” junior Sarah Stuetz said.
