“The Hunting Ground,” a documentary about rape and sexual assault on college campuses, will be shown later this month as part of the Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Film Series.

The series was started by the Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee (PADC), which consists of citizens who aim to promote awareness of differences and similarities between people in the Piedmont community. The committee began the film series twenty years ago as a small project to promote different themes throughout the neighborhood through film.Hunting Grounds (1)

In the next few weeks, Piedmont citizens will have the opportunity to see this film two times. The first screening will be at the Ellen Driscoll theater on Oct. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the second will be at the New Parkway theater in Oakland on Nov. 7 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Both events are free and will be followed by a discussion about sexual assault, rape culture and other issues presented in the film, like protests and admission policies, according to the Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee.

“Any education to help address this problem [sexual assault] is important,” principal Brent Daniels said.

The PADC often asks directors and producers of the films to come join discussions, like “Three to Infinity” director Lonny Shavelson last year to participate in discussions about gender inequality.

“I thought it was an awesome way of doing the film and an inquisitive way of showcasing it,” student filmmaker senior Mariah Papy said, who saw a screening of “Three to Infinity” last year.
