After taking every studio art class offered possible, two students decided it was not enough.
Juniors Odessa Blackmore and Rachel Hodgson are taking both art three and art four.
“I enjoy taking art and wanted to get more time in school to do it,” Blackmore said.
Balckmore and Hodgson are the only students in art four, which is held during the AP art class. The difference between AP and art four are the different requirements for their concentration.
While working on their concentrations in art four, they are simultaneously working on art three projects in another class. This is the first time students have taken two art classes in the same year.
“I enjoy art so I took two art classes,” Blackmore said.
However Blackmore said on some days, having two classes in a row can be too long.
“I have art almost everyday which is great although there are some days where I have it two classes in a row, 3 hours,” Blackmore said.
Art teacher Gillian Bailey said that having two classes gives them double the amount of artwork they can create.
“They have more momentum that they build so they can actually be a little bit more prolific,” Bailey said.
Blackmore and Hodgson both plan to take AP art next year.
“Hopefully [I will continue after high school.] I don’t necessarily know where it will take me but it is what I like to do so I’m hopeful I will get more time after high school to pursue it,” Blackmore said.
