DSC_0388The dance team showed the school it’s idea of spirit at the rally on Oct. 25 with a dance routine choreographed by senior Robert Yu set to the song “Treasure” by Bruno Mars.

“The song for the rally was chosen because I just love the song, despite its popularity. It’s an easy going song, that makes people happy” Yu said.

Yu started choreographing sophomore year, saying it’s just a step further in his career.

“Choreographing for the rally wasn’t difficult; it was merely fun”, Yu said. “[It] presents a fun side of dance, and I really want to show that. In general, just from being around people, listening to good music, and surrounding myself in a positive environment, choreography comes naturally to me.”

Rehearsals took place during every class for at least 30 minutes.

Junior Amanda Champion said, “The rehearsing is really fun, and there is no pressure to be perfect, just to have a good time with it.”

“They’ve been working quite hard on it in class for several weeks”, dance teacher Amy Moorhead said. “We think they’re going to look pretty tight.”

Champion describes the dance style as hip-hop, but more groovy.

“[It’s] really funky, and it’s also a lot of fun to perform,” Champion said. “The style is definitely Robert’s but there is room to have your own style too”.

Though the dance class usually performs every year, Moorhead said she appreciated the opportunity given to them.

“It’s always really nice to be invited to perform,” Moorhead said. “We don’t take that for granted since there’s only a certain amount of time for the rally.”
