PHS improvements: Renovate our bathrooms

Throughout my high school career I have received numerous pieces of advice; “Don’t cut anyone older than you in the line at the cafeteria,” “Make sure to turn in your homework on time,” and “Don’t take Math Analysis.” Following these guidelines in school has made my high school life a lot easier, but the main piece of advice that I hear most often is, “Don’t use the bathrooms.”

Baffling at first, this unwritten rule is practiced almost religiously. Students specifically avoiding certain bathrooms because of the necessary commodities that some of these bathrooms lack. Ranging from no toilet paper, to no locks, the bathroom tip is not a bad piece of advice.

In my experience, I have found little to nothing wrong with the urinals in the various bathrooms I go to, but the toilets are different story.

It seems like students who use the toilets have a strong tendency to either not flush, break locks, and somehow miss the bowl. Like seriously, its not a small target. And for those unfortunate souls who cannot hold it any longer, these problems present issues in a time of urgency.

Trust me when I say that using the bathroom at school is not one of the things that I look forward to, regardless if it gets me out of class.

However, some of the problems revolving around the bathroom are not all student caused. Sometimes there is just a lack of toilet paper, weak hand dryers that take forever to dry hands, or no paper towels.

The thing that peeves me the most are the automatic flushers; I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I wasn’t finished yet.

This brings up a very simple decision to fix all these problems: renovation.

By renovation I don’t mean stripping all the bathrooms done to rumble then rebuilding, I just mean updating them to make them cleaner and aesthetically pleasing.

Also, by renovating the bathrooms, students would be more inclined to use them properly and do the necessary tasks after using it, like washing your hands. It’s gross if you don’t OK. I don’t care if you think you won’t get anyone sick. Adding new hand dryers, better locks, and functioning flushers would drastically increase the status of the bathrooms, making it a nicer, easier place to do the business.
