To celebrate their final days in high school, seniors enjoyed free snacks from popular restaurants and bakeries during Senior Week, June 2 – 6.

Organized by Senior Class President senior Marie St. Claire, seniors received a different option  each day of the week. Monday: Fentons, Tuesday: Cupkates, Wednesday: Homeroom, Thursday: Arizmendi, and Friday: Bakesale Betty.

“[The goal of Senior Week was] just to make sure that seniors have a really good end to their year by encapsulating all of our favorite varieties of food, just for good memories and stuff like that,” St. Claire said.

In preparation for Senior Week, St. Claire first posed a question to the senior class Facebook group to find the most popular foods, then calculated portion sizes and coordinated with each restaurant.

“Because we do have a budget, sometimes what everyone wants is not feasible, but two really popular ones were Homeroom and Bakesale Betty, so we made sure to have those,” St. Claire said. “And we had cheaper options that people still love like Arizmendi and Fentons to kind of balance it out.”

Senior Joseph Powell said that Friday was the best day because they got sandwiches from Bakesale Betty.

“[I liked how] it was a full meal, and not just dessert,” Powell said. “I wish there had been more whole lunches, but overall [Senior Week] was pretty good. The food was delicious.”

Senior Emily Laymon said that her favorite day was when they got mac and cheese from Homeroom because they had a variety of flavors to choose from.

“[Senior Week] is a lot of fun and a great way to end the year for seniors,” Laymon said. “[The last few days have been] kind of surreal and nostalgic because soon we’re going to be leaving Piedmont where we’ve lived for our whole lives, but I’m excited.”

Even though she is not a senior, English teacher Mercedes Foster also received free food during Senior Week.

“This year they were really generous,” Foster said. “In the past seniors, have been like ‘No, no, it’s just for seniors,’ but this year it’s a much more generous senior group. I think it’s fun because they have their own separate ASB fund and it’s really cool that they get to spend it how they want at the very last minute.”

Having just watched personal videos that her seniors made representing themselves, Foster said that she is feeling very emotional for their departure.

“It’s like I’ve ridden the roller coaster all year,” Foster said,” and now we’ve watched these videos that they’ve made representing who they are now. Waterworks!”

Senior Sam Jones said that it was nice for his class to come together and enjoy the free food.

“I’m kind of happy we can go out of high school kind of with a bang,” Jones. said. “[In the future,] maybe somehow have it during the week of finals, so seniors can have a break and nice snack between finals.”

St. Claire said she felt that the majority of seniors were happy with the food options and how the week went overall, making her happy as well.

“I feel like Senior Week, even though it’s not about spirit, in a lot of ways helps with the spirit just because it’s something that everyone loves and enjoys,” St. Claire said. “Seniors leave the year with happy last few days.”
