IMG_6143The varsity men’s soccer team lost to Mt. Eden High School 4-3, on Wednesday, Jan 15.

Piedmont played tough defense the first half and senior Corey Collier blocked many shots, but unfortunately Mt. Eden was able to score their first goal with 29:48 left in the first half.

Piedmont attempted many goals at the start of the game but they just were not making them. Mt. Eden scored another goal with 7:23 left in the first half and again with 2:00 left, making the score 3-0 at half time.

At the start of the second half Piedmont showed more intensity and started a comeback. Freshman Dara Kasrovi scored Piedmont’s first goal, making it 3-1, Mt. Eden.

“As a team we came back from a three goal deficit which shows how resilient our team is,” said junior Andrew Strauch.

Then with 30:21 left in the second half captain senior Irvin Xu scored making the score 3-2, Mt. Eden.

Kasrovi scored his second goal, tying Piedmont up with Mt. Eden, with 20:55 left in the half.

With only 3:01 left in the game, Mt. Eden attempted a goal but it was saved by Collier. Only a few seconds later Mt. Eden quickly scored, ending the game with a score of 4-3.

Both the coaches and the team were proud that they were able to come back after the first half.

“We came back and we showed a lot of heart,” said captain senior Ale Chiodo.

Coach Rory O’Connor said that the team’s intensity in the first half let them down.

“But really we were beaten by referee decisions tonight so you can’t work with that,” O’Connor said.

Chiodo also agrees with his Coach O’Connor and said that the team could have come out harder and stranger at the beginning of the game.

Strauch said that the team has things that they need to work on in practices for future games.

“We need to improve on our communication and ball movement,” Strauch said.
