The William Binks Gym is currently in a condition that is shy of excellent, so the PHS women’s basketball team started a fundraiser called “Give Binks Some Love!” in order to restore this facility and greatly improve the appearance. Donations are highly encouraged and may be made at phswomensbasketball.com/donate-to-bink/.
According to Kelley Thompson, the program organizer, the first phase is expected to be finished during the summer of 2013 and it includes painting, refinishing of architectural wood slats, and signage if all goes well with the fundraiser.
This a project that will benefit future generations in the Piedmont Basketball Program. The school district supports the project and will propose this only if the community puts up 50% of the funds first. However, the painting of the gym floor may not go through because the floor was already re-finished this summer.
According to phswomensbasketball.com, the project is expected to cost $7,000 for painting (gym walls only), $23,000 for refinishing of wood slats, $4,000 for electronic/digital signage, and $23,000 for striping, repainting, new logo, & refinishing of gym floors.
Overall the goal is to raise $42,000 which will cover 50% of the painting and wood refinishing. Coaches who were involved this process are Bryan Gardere (women’s basketball coach), Chris Lavdiotis (men’s basketball), Lindsey Bronsen (volleyball), and Melissa Byrd (badminton) will be asking each of their team participant families to contribute $100 towards the project.
“The families of women’s basketball committed $2k for the project, they have raise $6k as of Friday, ajnd Home Depot has agreed to donate some supplies for the project,” Thompson said.
