Combat boots are stomping through Spring and into Summer. Dr. Martens have made a statement this year again, as we flashback to the punk-rocker phases that we saw in the movies before our time. In the 1960s, Dr. Martens were taken over by punk culture and the world of showbiz, “appearing on musicians, gig-goers, punks, goths, hippies and skinheads”, according to The Rake. This trend of youth rebellion reappeared in 2018, when our favorite celebrities trudged the streets in Dr. Martens. Fashion icons like Bella Hadid, North West, and Kaia Gerber have made combat boots relevant again, reminding the media of the punk and unisex culture we didn’t know we missed. Today, we have been styling them with shorts, skirts, and even dresses, making them fit right into your summer closet. They can be seen as “cute” when paired with a floral peasant dress and ankle socks, or as “edgy” when worn with black jeans and a simple t shirt. Summer is about embracing bright colors and cheerful prints through the warm weather, and Dr. Martens do a good job of complimenting that energy. If you don’t like chunky black boots, then get a bright color, print, or even white! Hailey Bieber, a model and widely influential fashion icon, has been caught numerous times wearing the same pair of white Dr. Martens, telling Who What Wear “they’re my favorite shoes, so of course I had to buy two!” The new summer shoe is actually not new at all. Move over sandals and make way for the shoe of the summer, Dr. Martens are here to stay.
