According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, National Merit Semifinalists are students who scored in roughly the top one percent on the PSAT in their state, placing them among about 16,000 students nationwide recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists then complete an application that includes their academic record, a recommendation, and a confirmation of their SAT or ACT score. Students who meet these requirements are named National Merit Finalists, a distinction held by about 15,000 students. Finalists are then eligible to compete for National Merit Scholarships. Seniors Milo Bakshi, Abigail Jacoby, Miles Kim, Maddox Ma, Aidan Patty, and Nathan Tuan are among the six PHS seniors who have been named National Merit Finalists.
