As an editorial board, we believe that change does not begin with authority; it begins with a voice. At PHS, every student holds the power to make a difference, yet that power only becomes real when we choose to speak, act, and lead with purpose. To create meaningful change, students must first find their voices and use the many resources our school provides to turn ideas into action.
In this issue, we highlight the programs, spaces, and organizations that have helped students discover the strength of their voices. Whether through classroom discussions that spark critical thinking, student organizations that promote collaboration, or civic groups that connect us to the wider community, these opportunities show that change is possible at every level of PHS.
Finding your voice does not start when you are in a position of influence. It starts when you are willing to step beyond your comfort zone and speak up. Using your voice should be more than pointing out what is wrong. It should be about creating solutions and driving progress. True passion means not only expressing your opinions but also taking action to bring your ideas to life.
Many students assume that their voice doesn’t matter, that speaking up won’t have an impact. Others stay quiet out of fear: fear of judgement, of standing out, or saying the wrong thing. But silence never leads to change. The truth is that our ideas, our experiences, and our perspectives do matter. When we speak with purpose and conviction, people listen.
That is why finding your voice is so important; not just to be heard, but to make a difference in the community you care about. Whether that be through helping other students through PHS’s Peer Tutoring program, starting a new club to explore one’s passions, speaking out at the School Board meeting, countless opportunities exist at PHS and in our broader community to create positive change.
We urge students to use their voices not only when something needs fixing, but also when they see a chance to improve what already works. Our school can only grow when each of us strives to reach our full potential and encourages others to do the same. Growth begins with courage. Progress begins with a voice, let it be yours.
